Sikoses

On the eve of the beginning of the great fasting period, meaning the day of the Carnival, the residents of the village would gather in houses to have fun until midnight. Each one would take some food at the house where the celebration took place and everybody would eat, drink, dance, sing and dress up together.

On the Sunday of the Carnival, when “sikosi” was celebrated, the men of the village would organise, if the weather permitted, outdoor team games. After the end of the game, the losing team would pay for the feast that was going to follow. At the same time, the boys of the village would play various outdoor games such as marbles and hide and seek, while the girls would play on the swings and sing. Finally, what is worth mentioning is that weddings were not performed during the carnival period.
